Day Trip to Suffolk County

A short two-hour drive from Manhattan you will find the town of Southold, New York. It is located at the northeastern end of Long Island, New York and it’s just the loveliest weekend or day trip (especially in spring and summer weather!). On your drive, you will pass by a plethora of vineyards, livestock and beautiful sights. Towards the end of the drive, we felt more like we were in Tuscany Italy than Long Island New York.

In the town of Southold, there is a restaurant called Country Corner Café that actually has a selection of kosher ice cream (Hershey’s!). Upon entry to the Cafe, there is a selection of photos taken by a local upcoming artist along with a much-enjoyed sign about attending your children. You can also pick up a great cup of coffee and sit down at a local hot spot.  We loved their vanilla, chocolate, and honey roasted peanut butter!

And if you have the time it’s worth the drive to Orient Beach State Park, especially if you have children. They have an amazing playground there that will keep your kids entertained for a bit. And possibly more exciting for the older kids is the Orient Point Ferry that takes you from Southold to Connecticut. Many locals take the ferry to CT and then on to Boston for a more direct route.
